The Jewish people were forced to move from Judah to Babylon; however, the exile formally ended in 538 B.C, when Cyrus the Great allowed the Jewish people to return to Palestine. The Jewish people viewed Cyrus the Great as a servant of God. The Jews suffered greatly but they still maintained their national spirit and religious identity. They adopted the Sumerian innovations, but also spoke different language than the Sumerians. They were middle to upper class citizens in society.
