Geology
Tectonic plate boundaries near Windhoek
Windhoek is located on the middle of the African plate, not close to any plate boundaries. The city is approximately 3,000 kilometers from the mid-ocean ridge.
Rocks that underlie Windhoek
Windhoek sits on many metamorphic rocks, such as quartzite, schist, and dolomite. There used to be many sedimentary rocks, but they, over time, have been compressed to form these metamorphic rocks.
