Factors that Regulate the Climate

New York is close to 40 degrees N latitude, in the mid latitudes high pressure area. It's topography is mountainous and it is right next to the Atlantic Ocean. It is very cool and moist much of the year due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The prevailing southwesterly winds blow from the south west to the northeast. Winters are cold due to the cooling affect of the Atlantic Ocean. [2]
