Information
Tiyi, also called Tiye in some instances, was the wife of Amenhotep III who became a very important influence in the court. Her husband ruled in the eighteenth dynasty of Egyptian rulers, during the time of the New Kingdom. As the pharaoh's wife, she held considerable political power and great respect in Egyptian culture, shown through the fact that in many temples and depictions she is portrayed as the same height as her husband. In addition to aiding Amenhotep III in ruling, Tiyi was the mother of several children, including Akhenaten and possibly Tuthmosis. She also had several temples built to honor her, though instead of using them as eternal resting places historians think she was reburied in the Valley of the Kings.
