The Upanishads are the most basic and important Hindu scriptures. Upanishad means the inner or mystic teaching. They are also known as the Vedanta or the end of the Veda. They reveal truths concerning the nature of the ultimate reality. There are over 200 Upanishads and more are being found. The impact of the Upanishads on later religious expression is more then any of the other Vedic tests. They were first made around the first millennium BCE. There are many authors of the Upanishads and some were made in the medieval period.
