The next step in the Funnel of Certainty is making a probable theory. A probable theory by creating as simple of a theory as possible. For example the theory of superposition is only three words: older is lower. Once there is a probable theory, someone tests it until it becomes a law. a law is when a theory does what its supposed to under any set of circumstances.

'''Elements of a dig:''' In Bone from a Dry Sea, there are many examples of elements of a dig because that is what the story is about. "The [crocodile jaw] was large but fragile, so that he had to scrape around it and burrow into the side wall, hardening it section by section with resin as he went." This is an example of elements of a dig because its not unheard of to run into some part of a big animal and have to go around. Other elements of a dig are describing and analyzing the things an archaeologists finds. Vinny does this too. when she finds the shoulder bone she tries to draw it to find things she cant see just looking at it.

History 8 Archaeology Bone From a Dry Sea

Summary: Vinny and her dad were digging a trench when Vinny brought up the sea-ape theory and asked her dad to look at toe bones to see if they were webbed. Joe arrives at the site when Vinny's dad finds a toe bone but doesn't want Joe to see it leading to an argument.

Funnel of Certainty: The Funnel of Certainty is mentioned in Bone from a Dry Sea on page 134. "Someday if you want me to, I'll read up enough about it to give you a considered opinion." This is an example of the first step in the Funnel or Certainty: speculation. Sam, Vinny's dad, doesn't know anything about this sea-ape theory but is willing to read about it. Another example is, "If you find another [toe bone], will you look at it and try and see if it might have been webbed?" This is also an example of speculation because she is trying to figure out what she knows about her theory.

Elements of a dig: In Bone from a Dry Sea, there are many examples of elements of a dig because that is what the story is about.
