The Aurignacians became more comfortable with the tools of the blade and burin society and they began to become more common in the lives of the people. They became even more common because of a technique called annealing. Annealing is when the flint that is being worked is heated up for it to be even more workable then before. The heat needed most likely came from the warmth of the sand. This process worked because it dried out the water in the flinthead, making it less brittle and easier to shape. Annealing must have been used to make the more dangerous spearheads of flint.
