*History 8 Mesopotamia Vocabulary

The mound of creation is the first piece of land that was fabled to have risen out of the ancient sea at the beginning of time. The Sumerians believed that the kingship (royal line) reached earth first at this mound that borders on a fresh water sea which was said to contain the god of water and wisdom. This is why their kings were so knowledgeable. They believed that this god, Enki, created all human life from theses waters. "The people of Heliopolis said their city was the primal mound; the center of creation."
