Parallel Port

A parallel port is a connection point through which a computer sends and receives data simultaneously by a number of separate wires. Commonly used for connecting a printer or external storage device. Transports data at higher speeds and with fewer errors than the serial port.

History

It was introduced in 1970, including the first parallel interface for printers. The interface was developed by Dr. An Wang, Robert Howard, and Prentice Robinson at Wang Laboratories. Uses: It was used to access a number of peripheral devices like printers, mice, keyboard, etc. Current Use: The current use of the port is minimal. It has been replaced by the USB and Ethernet.
