Hanuman, brave leader of the monkey tribe and important deity in the Hindu faith, played an important role in rescuing Sita from Ravana and in the end, defeating Ravana, in the epic of Ramayana. Hanuman is able to help Rama because Hanuman has divine powers that come from his father, the wind god. Because of his divine father, Hanuman had the ability to fly with wind-like speed, change his size at any time, and he ahd extreme strength and agility. These powers enabled Hanuman to perform many tasks in the Ramayama that would be impossible for ordinary people. Throughout the Hindu faith, especially in Northern India, Hanuman is known as the "proprietor against all evil" [1]. There are many temples dedicated to Hanuman all across India and small shrines are made in his honor in small villages and towns.
