Return to History 8 Human Origins Bone From a Dry Sea

Communication- On page 2 when the little girl is on shark watch duty she uses a different kind of communication then what we are used to. Instead of yelling shark, their signal is a, "...snapped-off hoot...".

Use of stones- The people in this community didn't have any developed weapons yet besides the rock. The only use of the rock they have in these 7 pages is hurling towards the shark hoping to hit and kill it. On page 3 it says, "they surged along the shore, leaping from rock to rock, hurling anything they could lift."

Development of thought- Towards the end of the chapter it shows what she is thinking and how her idea of things have changed. For example, it says, "She had no words for this knowledge. Thought and understanding for her were a kind of seeing. She showed herself things in her mind, the rock shelf, the shallow water, the need to lure the shark full tilt onto the slope so it would force itself out to far, and strand and die..."(7).
