Homo Oeconomicus also known as Homo Economicus is a term according to economists that describes a human being who is rational and whose decisions are guided by secular law.  It is a broad term on free thinking people.  The term however assumes that  and will attempt to maximize their gains by rational decisions but does not account for irrational decisions.  This idea, born in Mesopotamia, is extremely important because it is a direct source of our western thinking.
