Line 1: Line 1:
A shaman is someone who is believed to achieve religious powers to heal the sick, communicate with the otherworld, escort the souls of the dead to the otherworld, make good hunting possible, forecast the future, etc... While the Aurignacian culture was around the people believed that there were two worlds, the world they lived in and the other world/spiritual world, and they believed that only the shaman could interact with the worlds. Contact between the shaman and the worlds happened in two ways: spirit helpers (usually animal form) come to the shaman and inhabit him/her when he/she calls on them ; the shaman may also send his/her soul to the other-world to meet the spirits and obtain protection. Shamans will do so through trance. A shaman has a social role and an important role as a communicator between the real world and the other world.
