A ziggurat was a Mesopotamia temple built on a raised platform. A ziggurat was used for a dwelling place of the gods and only priests, gods, kings, and people who worked for the King were allowed inside. There are thirty two known ziggurats around the Mesopatamia area and the best preserved one is in western Iran.It is called Choqa Zanbil. The ziggurat was usually in the center of the city as a worship place.
