Back to History 8 Egypt Questions

The word pyramid means "a place of ascension." The pyramids were basically tombs. They pyramids were "staircases" on which the pharaoh could ascend into heaven. Then, the dead pharaoh becomes a manifestation of the sun god.

The pyramids also tie into the legitimization of authority. The pharaoh would use the pyramid as a validation of their power over the people of Egypt. The pharaoh was also a "god", which also legitimizes his authority.
