According to Manual pg 74, cuneiform is the style of writing used by the Sumerians. It was the first written language in the world, and it was invented around 3000 BCE.

AncientScripts states that cuneiform is not a specific type of writing, but rather any form of writing that has wedges as the basis of the writing style. The Sumerian cuneiform was the first example of this, however.
