Internecine warfare was constant in the first age of Sumerian cities even though it was in the interest of Southern Iraqi city states to cooperate with one another, a string of events that caused resources to be limited. A myriad of cities caused other cities' downfall due to war, but, in the end, war diminished resources in both cities in the end. In short, internecine warfare caused a disproportionate relationship between populations and their resources in the end and weakened trade.
