A hominid is a primate of a family that includes humans and their fossil ancestors. Early hominids did not have any defense mechanisms against predators, so they did not last very long in an open space. The hominids might have thrown sticks or rocks at the predator to try to scare it away, but throwing sticks and rocks required standing on two legs. This might have been the beginning of bipedalism within our ancestors.
