The Greeks created the name "alphabet" adding vowels to the twenty-odd characters of Byblos. After the alphabet was created the Egyptian system soon put it into their own ideas and had a good understanding of how to interpret it, but these ideas did not survive when the empire fell. Although the Egyptian system didn't survive, there was another system that developed when the Egyptian system was being created. This is the system of Byblos. When the Egyptian system fell, the system of Byblos was spreading rapidly around the world. The alphabet gave the people control over what will be remembered and what will be forgotten for the future. The alphabet also makes the laws more consistent and permanent.
