The major cities of Phoenicia were able to withstand most early attacks from the Assyrians around 6th Century B.C., but when the Persian culture and ways infiltrated Phoenician culture because the Phoenicians submitted to them, it weakened the Phoenicians to the later coming attacks of Alexander the Great.
