Senemut which means mothers brother, was one of the most powerful and famous, or infamous, officials in Ancient Egypt. He was the Chief Steward of Amun, he was the tutor to the Princess Neferure and confident of the pharaoh Hatshepsut.  He was the son of Ramose and Hatnefer who hailed from Iuny.  His career began during the reign of Thutmoses I who contested in the near East and Africa.  Senemut was an architect and was the person assigned to quarry out the necessary stone for two basilisks at Aswan.  He left 25 statues and work of himself behind and a number of depictions within the monuments at Hatshepsut.  Some historians suggest that him and Hatshepsut were lovers even though she was the pharaoh at the time.  He had sufficient wealth and power at the time and is regarded as one of the greatest architects in Ancient Egyptian History
