Amonhotep I was the son of Ahmose and likely ascended the throne at a young age with his mother as regent. Not much is known about his reign, but he is thought to have led campaigns to Nubia. Most statues found of Amonhotep I were part of his funerary art and not of his reign. He was the first king to separate his mortuary temple from his tomb. He was succeeded by Thutmose I.
