| − | The Natufians were a hunter-gatherer culture living in the Levant region, which was East of the Mediterranean Sea. They lived between about 12,500 and 10,200 years ago. They hunted gazelle, deer, cattle, horses, and wild boars. They gathered mainly barley, wheat, almonds, and emmer (a type of wheat). For at least part of the year, the Natufian people lived together in communities that varied in size. Larger communities were called base camps. Smaller communities or camps were used for foraging during the dry season. The Natufians lived in circular, one room structures that were partly in the ground, and built of stone or wood, and sometimes contained a brush roof.
