Ramses the II also known as Ramses the great was an Egyptian pharaoh from 1279 BC to 1213 BC during the 19th dynasty.  Ramses the great took the throne when he was in his early twenties and ruled for 67 years.  Ramses the great was known for his architecture of temples and monuments.  One work known as the Ramesseum was one his most well known and was a memorial temple complex near Luxor.  Ramses the II built many large statues of himself and make sure to show people his victories of the Hittites.  Ramses the II was known for his architecture but most known as one of the Egyptian Pharaohs with the most military strength.  Ramses the II captured many territories that used to belong to Egypt but were taken away by other Pharaohs.  His army consisted of over 100,000 troops which was massive during that time.
