Meriam Webster defines alluvial to be made up of or found in the materials that are left by the water of rivers, floods, etc. The Sumerians called a flat alluvial plain that was 300 miles long and 150 miles wide "The Land". The land was created by deposits of silt from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The alluvial plain received limited rainfall and the rivers were used for irrigation to grow plants.
