According to Meriam Webster a garden is a public area of ground where plants (such as flowers or vegetables) and trees are grown.  In the Neolithic age gardening caused groups to settle down in an are and the creation of communities. For thousands of years people may have been growin small plants but the growing of food plants while taking care of them composed part of the first human horticulture.  In order to grow new useful plants and to create fertile soil, ancient humans would burn the old plants.  Garden produce has a value that was worth stealing.  In order to protect themselves, humans would often live in fortified communities.  They would also create the gardens outside of the cillage walls so that at night they could go into the village avoiding animals and robbers.
