Supplies for the afterlife would always be given to the wealthy in order to ensure a peaceful, perfect afterlife. In ''Eater of Souls'', Meren was especially disturbed by Akhenaton's death because he believed that he could have done something to stop the death. He believes that because he did not prevent the death, when he dies and his heart is weighed against the feather of Ma'at, "his heart would send the weighing pan crashing to the floor. There the Devouress, Eater of Souls, would snatch it up in her crocodile jaws..." (Eater of Souls, pg32).
