− | A '''necropolis''', which translated from Greek means a "city of the dead", was a burial site usually separate from the rest of the city that had huge monuments and tombs for the great and powerful people buried inside. In Egypt, a large and well-known example was the Giza Necropolis, an area of land including the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, many tombs of nobles, the Valley Temple, and several other smaller cemeteries.
