− | An '''obelisk''' is a four-sided stone that tapers to a point at the top. The Egyptians used a single stone that was usually cut from red granite quarries. The top would often be covered by electrum, and its sides were inscribed with heiroglyphics and appraisals to their gods. They often stood in pairs at the entrance to temples to show off their wealth and power.
