Back to History 8 Fifth Mountain Readings Morals are "relating to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong." Basically meaning, doing the right or kind thing.

Example 1: "The Israelite wept, asking himself, 'O my Lord and God, even this widow, who has been so generous to me, hast Thou chosen to afflict? If Thou hast slain her son, it can only be because I am failing the mission that has been entrusted to me, and it is I who deserve to die' "(48).

Elijah believed that it was his fault that the son died, so he asked his lord to kill him or take him instead. He did this because if it really was his fault that the child died, he believed that it was the right and kind thing to ask the lord to take him instead. Elijah used his moral principals.

Example 2: "'Rise,' he told them, 'and worship the Lord. I am merely one of His servants, perhaps the least prepared.' But they all remained on their knees, their heads bowed"(59).

The towns people used to despise Elijah and believed that he brought a curse with him to their city. But after he saved the boy, they all worshiped him. They bowed down to him because he had preformed a miracle and it was the right and kind thing to do. The towns people used their moral principals to decide on how to treat Elijah.
