− | A revetment is a barricade of stone, rubble, earth, or other material that is built on an slope and is used to deflect enemy fire or protect an city. Revetments are often used during wars to protect from artillery, bombing, or stored explosives but they also protect city from floods because the sloped bank absorbs the energy of incoming water. In Ancient Egypt, revetments were used, for this purpose to protect cities, from floods.
