History 8 Agriculture Vocabulary

The plow, developed to make farming easier, profoundly changed farming and human life. The plow is a pointed digging stick with a handle attached. In around 3000 B.C., Sumerian farmers developed plows and had them pulled by oxen, eventually spreading the idea to Asia, Egypt, Europe, and India. The plow is "used to turn and break up soil, to bury crop residues, and to help control weeds"(1). This useful invention made farming easier, eventually leading to increased farming and larger fields.
