Day 1: What did you like about Gatsby and why?

I liked The Great Gatsbybecause of how well F. Scott Fitzgerald developed each character. I feel that I fully understand each character and that I can accurately predict how a certain character would act in a certain situation through Fitzgerald's language. In addition, I also particularly enjoyed how the book began. I liked how no one knows the true story behind Gatsby, as if he were not a real person, but a specific, different figment of each person's imagination. Despite Fitzgerald's strong character development and Gatsby's "secret" life, I finished the story on a sour note because I did not enjoy how the book ended. For me, the story seemed to completely collapse on itself. Gatsby is unjustifiably murdered by George Wilson while Tom gets away with "the girl" Daisy. Also, Nick and Jordan's relationship falls apart for, in my opinion, reasons that make very little sense to me. Although I liked some parts of Gatsby, I did not overall enjoy the book because of how the story was concluded.
