Atman, in Hindu, literally means inner-self. Atman is also the first principle of Hinduism. Atman is thought to be the principle of the mind and the life principle of the universe. Atman refers to the non-material self which never changes. Atman is the individual spirit. While its counterpart, Brahman, is all of the souls.
