Meren was upset because he knew who had taken Akhenaton's life, and could have easily prevented it. He felt as though he was abandoning his position. Also, Akhenaton died of the same "mysterious diease" that his wife, Nefertiti, died of. To sum up Meren' feelings... "How does one justify the allowing of a living god, a pharaoh, to be killed?" (pg. 32)

3. Explain the significance of events during Akhenaton's reign.

4. Why was Meren upset and troubled by Akhenaton's death?

Meren was upset because he knew who had taken Akhenaton's life, and could have easily prevented it. He felt as though he was abandoning his position. Also, Akhenaton died of the same "mysterious diease" that his wife, Nefertiti, died of. To sum up Meren's feelings... "How does one justify the allowing of a living god, a pharaoh, to be killed?"
