3. Explain the significance of events during Akhenaton's reign. Akhenaton switched from the old gods to his new god, Aten, the sun disc. Aten had always existed in Egyptian culture, but had never been the focal point. Many believed, (after Akhenaton's reign), that this angered the old gods.

4. Why was Meren upset and troubled by Akhenaton's death? Meren was upset because he knew who had taken Akhenaton's life, and could have easily prevented it. He felt as though he was abandoning his position. Also, Akhenaton died of the same "mysterious diease" that his wife, Nefertiti, died of. To sum up Meren' feelings... "How does one justify the allowing of a living god, a pharaoh, to be killed?" (pg. 32)
