− | Hammurabi was the king of Babylon from 1792-1750 BC. He was the first ruler of the Babylonian empire. He ruled for 42 years and made a huge impact on not only Babylon, but also the world. He was the earliest-known example of a ruler proclaiming publicly to his people an entire body of laws arranged in orderly groups, so that all men might read and know what was required of them. In simpler words, he was the first person to set down a written code of laws. He also helped restore order and justice in Mesopotamia.
