Introduction

Threadripper was a line of CPUs released by AMD in August of 2017. It was the first line of AMD CPUs to compete with high-end Intel CPUs in some time. Also, the Threaripper 2990WX is the first commercially available processor with 32 cores.

Overview

AMD's Ryzen Threadrippers are a line of high core count multithreading CPUs that can compete with Intel’s X-series processors. For example, the Ryzen Threadripper 2950X has 16 cores and 32 threads with a base clock of 3.5 GHz for $699.99 (source 2), whereas the Intel i9-7960X has 16 cores and 32 threads with a base clock of 2.80 GHz for $1299.99 (source 3). Although the Intel many Intel processors can still outperform Threadripper CPUs in certain tasks, these CPUs can excel in multicore processes.
