Overview

When Amazon began in 1994, it was solely an online bookstore; however, it quickly add media such as MP3, and now it sells everything(11). Originally named Cadabra in 1994, Bezos realized that the company would need a name change once a lawyer misheard Cadabra as “Cadaver”. Bezos believed that the new name need to start with the letter “A” so that it would be at the top of search lists on the internet. He quickly decided on Amazon because just as the Amazon River is by far the largest river the world, Amazon would become the largest retailer in the world by far (12). Amazon is renowned for having exemplary customer support despite lacking physical stores. Amazon’s widespread success is often credited in part to this customer service(11).
