GHz
GHz, also known as the gigahertz is a billion hertz, which is abbreviated as Hz. A Hertz is a unit to denote how many cycles a second (also known as the frequency) an electromagnetic wave or a sound wave or any other wave is travelling. For example, one hertz would be one cycle per second, 60 hertz would be 60 cycles per second, and a gigahertz would by 1,000,000,000 cycles a second. An electromagnetic wave travelling at the frequency of one gigahertz has a wavelength of 30 centimeters. Microwaves have a frequency of over one gigahertz and a wavelength of less than 30 centimeters. The Hertz can be applied to any periodic event (they can be expressed in a wave form) like the ticking or a clock or the beating of a heart. CPUs are labled by their clockspeed, or how fast they are, in a denomination of Hz. In the 1970s home computers had a CPU at 1 megahertz while now computers have about 4 GHz.This means that a computer that had a speed of one GHz would be a little slower than your home computer!
