A storage device is an input component in a computer that is used to retain digital data for an interval of time. A piece of information can be handled by any computer whose storage space is large enough to accommodate it (the amount of storage space any given device has is measured in bytes).

The storage device can be either internal or external. Internal devices are typically stationary, (examples include a hard drive or RAM) while externals have mobile storage (flash drives and CD’s among others). Devices vary in what they can store, how long they can store it, and how you can access the information.
