Return to History 8 Environment Bone From a Dry Sea

16. Rules have exceptions

Merriam Webster defines a rule as, "a statement that tells you what is or what is not allowed in a particular game, situation, etc." Others think of rules as guidelines that are meant to be broken. but all rules have exceptions. In this chapter, Vinny bends some rules. At the very beginning of the chapter Vinny explains,"'It was the other way around. They found themselves in an oven so they went into the sea to get out of it and then they evolved.'...In spite of May Anna's encouragement Vinny hadn't meant to barge straight in like that... she'd been thinking of the coming heat, and how lovely it would be to have a sea to swim in" Vinny breaks her rule of not bringing up the sea theory and learns that her father still does not want to talk about it. Later in the chapter, Vinny's father doesn't mention some lines and holes in a bone she found, because he does not want Dr.Hamiska to learn about it and begin theorizing until they have a little more information to go on.

An important thing to remember is that all rules have exceptions except for the rule that says all rules have exceptions.
