Purpose of Project

This project sprang from discussions with high level US coaches, some international coaches and biomechanists, a trip to Formia to visit with Vitali Petrov, and a generous grant from St. John's School to pursue the mentoring of Petrov, Wolfgang Ritzdorf, Herbert Czingon, and others. In addition, Tom Tellez, Dan Pfaff, David Johnston, David Butler, USATF Pole Vault Chair Greg Hull, and other American coaches have been instrumental in guiding this project. The goals are to...

  • Promote the development of technical coaching in the US and worldwide
  • Improve the safety of Vaulting in the United States
  • Facilitate communication of ideas among coaches internationally
  • Improve the basic understanding of mechanics, teaching, and learning among coaches of all levels
  • Further develop constructive collaboration of coaches and sport scientists, especially biomechanists
    • Develop efficient, fast tools that coaches and biomechanists and athletes can use to improve the technical competency of vaulting

  • Anyone may send files containing information that can be posted on this website for all to view and download
