“Napoleon of Egypt When Thutmose III was young, his father, Thutmose II died and his stepmother Hapshetsup assumed the throne for the next twenty- one years. Some suspect that Thutmose III killed Hapshetsup in order to take the throne for himself. Evidence to support this is that many of the records of Hapshetsup have been destroyed. It was later discovered that Thutmose III in fact did not kill her, but that she had major health problems that would have lead to her death. Before he took power Thutmose was the leader of the Egyptian army and had been building up military strength for years. Thutmose III gathered together 20,000 soldiers and planned a surprise attack on Megiddo. He and his army starved out the citizens of Megiddo after seven months of being under siege. After Megiddo surrendered to the Egyptians Thutmose III took all the children from Megiddo back to Egypt with him. These children would be taken back to Egypt to be brainwashed and taught the Egyptian ways, and later be sent back home as fellow Egyptians to run Megiddo. During his time as pharaoh, he gained control of the Syrian and Lebanese coasts, large parts of Israel and Palestine, and all of Nubia. By the time he died, Thutmose III conquered more land then any other pharaoh in his time.
