One of the many achievements of the Tang Dynasty is the Tang Tribute System. The Tang tribute system, like the Examination System, is based upon the Han Dynasty. Conquered countries and peoples would be made to accept the Tang Emperor as their overlord and send regular gifts. Although this may have seemed unfair, the tributary states would gain important relations with China as well as trade oppotunities with virtually no influence on the state itself.
