Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204) liberally supported romantic poets and entertainers called troubadours. The troubadours traveled often to Poiters, the home of Eleanor of Aquitaine. Eleanor was the most celebrated woman of her time, and used her influence to encourage the cultivation of good manners, refinement, and romantic love.
