Italian Humanist who lived from 1304 to 1374 and traveled throughout Europe looking for manuscripts of classical works. He found many works in Italy, Switzerland, and southern France (T&E p 584) Sometimes he is called the father of Humanism. He was also a poet and wrote in Latin and Italian. He had a huge collection of notable manuscripts he had collected. He also published two books filled with his letters to friends. He was also the first to offer a combination of abstract entities of classical culture and Christian philosophy. His letters made him very known and widespread [1] Courtnay Buaas
