The Nile is the longest river in the world, reaching a length of 4,132 miles. The Nile flows from the South to the North, which is an unusual way for a river to flow. The Nile was a key part to life in Egypt. The flood or inundation of the river every year left the soil fertile. The Nile also offered a fast mode of transportation. If you wanted to go to Lower Egypt, you could use the current of the river to move your boat. If you wanted to go Upper Egypt, you could use the winds of the Mediterranean Sea to move your boat. As the river was a vital part to Egyptian life, it became known as the Father of Life" and the "Mother of All Men.
