Joseph Campbell was born on March 26, 1904 in White Plains, NY into an upper-middle-class Irish Catholic Family. He graduated from Canterbury school in New Milford, Connecticut and continued onto Dartmouth College where he later realized that he had a passion for the humanities and he transferred to Columbia University. He was an American mythologist, writer, and lecturer, best known for his work in mythology. He read around six hours every day, leading to his extensive knowledge. He created the theory of The Hero's Journey, a pattern that appears in stories and myths describing the typical adventure of the hero. This person achieves great deeds on behalf of a certain group, tribe, or civilization. He had many theories which he described in published books and articles such as the four-volume series The Masks of God, Myths to Live By, The Inner Reaches of Outer Space and The Historical Atlas of World Mythology.
