There were significant changes in government that happened during the shift to the Babylonian Empire. One of the most major shifts involved the centralization of government. The capital of the centralized government was the city of Babylon. Because the government was now centralized, the monarch had significantly more power and was seen as godly. There were new ways to handle taxes and military service involuntary. New laws were created that dealt harshly with criminals and the death penalty was far more common.
